Community makes Tucson home.
Community is our shared sense of belonging to this city we call home. As Tucsonans, we naturally have a lot in common with one another and a shared responsibility to making our neighborhoods safe, clean, and inviting. We want to share our cultures and accomplishments with one another. We want to lift each other up, and want to be able to catch each other then we fall.
It’s easy these days to become isolated from our community; to not know the names or faces of our neighbors, nevermind knowing their struggles. We as individuals have a responsibility to step outside and try to get to know and understand the people around us.
That said, I believe a strong city council member should become familiar with every neighborhood in their ward and work to form connections between these neighborhoods. Every neighborhood is unique, and neighborhood associations are important windows into the block-by-block concerns and priorities of their residents. Connecting these neighborhood associations with each other so they can coordinate when possible will make our neighborhoods stronger.
We can come to understand ourselves and our city better by forming connections with our community, and it’s a city council member’s job to facilitate those connections. A strong web of connections forms the foundation of a strong community that can work together to accomplish its goals.
I intend to be a city council member who works to build those connections and nurture a strong sense of community.
